Authority is rooted in relationship

I’m really excited about our time together this morning, as we look at the power of authority. One of the keys to grasping authority has to be an understanding that we are authorised to live lives of spiritual power and purpose for today. I think one of the greatest obstacles that many Christians face is getting over a sense of unworthiness; a feeling that is usually a blend of inadequacy, as we compare ourselves to others, and guilt over our shortcoming. Rather, we need a focus on God’s grace as we celebrate and apply Christ’s overcoming!

We have to understand that our spiritual authorisation is rooted in relationship with God, and not in our worldly abilities. The Apostle Paul passionately conveys this to the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 6:18: ‘I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.’ Before we go deeper today, let’s rejoice over the fact that we are wonderfully accepted into the Father’s heart… adopted through Christ… and that’s the only qualification for authorisation that we need!
