It’s great to be able to celebrate alongside those who are being baptised today!
For those going through the water, it’s a response to a decision of the heart that was made some time ago: to follow Jesus Christ and acknowledge His unique capability in making us accepted for a place in Heaven. Today is a great reminder that decisions are important. I don’t know about you, but I’ve sometimes felt a bit ‘swept along’ with the busyness of life and the demands of others and, in all of that, it’s easy to forget our own personal identity!
The great news is that God knows who we are, with all of our successes and mistakes, and He still loves us! Deciding to follow Jesus is the only response that unlocks our heart to the Father’s love. Religion or tradition can’t do it; hoping to be accepted through good works is fruitless too! When Jesus said, ‘I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,’ (John 14:6) He wasn’t presenting a closed door or an exclusive club; He was presenting Himself as the key. Whether we choose to accept or reject, that’s for each and each one of us to decide…
