Who are you walking with?

That’s the question we’ll be looking at over the next few Sunday mornings. You may think it’s a strange thing to ask, but the Bible has a lot to say about walking. God himself is recorded as ‘walking in the garden in the cool of the day’ as he looked for Adam to spend time with him (Genesis 3:9). Later on in Genesis 17:1, the LORD says to Abram, ‘I am God Almighty, walk before me and be blameless.’ Paul tells us in Colossians 2:6, ‘Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,’ and to the Galatian church, he says, ‘Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.’

The evidence is overwhelming, even through these few Bible references are not just talking about ‘walking’. There is more than merely clocking up the steps on a Fitbit going on here. (Other distance-monitoring fitness devices are available!). The inference is that something happens to our character, our faith, our expectations and our future when we purposefully walk in the company of God. So, over the next handful of Sundays, we are on a journey, examining what it really means to walk spiritually, and unpacking what the awesome consequences might be for those who are ready to make their steps with God more purposeful!
