Preparation for renewal

I love the autumn — maybe it’s because I was born at this time of the year. I like the fact that there’s still the possibility of a hint of summer, and the days are not too short yet. Above all I marvel at the transformation of the countryside, the blend of a whole spectrum of dramatic colours as greenery gives way to yellows, oranges, reds, purples and browns! I try not to think of the changes as a signal that things are dying and another year is preparing to draw to a close, rather I see it as preparation for renewal.

The apostle Paul brings the most vibrant message of hope to those who have placed their belief and trust in Jesus: ‘If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies, through his Spirit, who lives in you.’ (Romans 8:11) In other words, Christ is in us, our soul is alive through him, and we have begun a journey of eternal life that will last forever!

In Christ there is no end, just a gateway to eternity with him. Our wonderful and promised hope is that he has taken the sting out of death (1 Corinthians 15:55-57), and we can journey assured that each season of our life comes with challenges and blessings and, ultimately, it always leads to an everlasting renewal of life for those who are in Christ!
