O come all ye faithful!

The Bible is full of exhortations to keep meeting, the clearest being found in Hebrews 10:25. It reads, ‘Let us not neglect meeting together… rather, let us encourage each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.’

The well-known carol, ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, has a real sense of joining together to focus on the Lord, with its call to all of the faithful in Christ to ‘Come Ye to Bethlehem’. This ancient song has always been one of my favourite carols. I remember, as a child, thinking, ‘How can we get to Bethlehem? It’s a long way from England!’ Now I know that it’s a timeless exhortation to focus on Jesus, the one who put Bethlehem on the map forever!

The first verse of the carol invites us to centre in again on ‘Christ the Lord’; to enter into that corporate worship place and ‘adore’ Him as one body. Today, let us enter in to His presence, joyful and triumphant, with a renewed sense of adoration. Let’s lay aside the things that might distract us and focus on the one who deserves our highest praise!
