Living in the overflow

I’m always impressed when I encounter people who have clearly been through challenging times, yet determine not to live in the place of blame or discouragement, but rather choose to live in hope and trust. Psalm 33:20 declares, ‘We wait in hope of the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.’ Such godly insight and wisdom can surely only be the echo of personal experience; the testimony of one who determined to ‘wait in hope’ and rejoice in God.

I encourage you today, no matter what you might be facing: keep hopeful, keep trusting, and keep rejoicing! The apostle Paul speaks these powerful and prayerful words to the Roman Christians: ‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.’ (Romans 15:13) How great is that? When we choose to walk in joy and peace we can live in the overflow of hope!

Paul makes it abundantly clear that the key to living in the overflow is to operate in the power of the Holy Spirit, a gift that’s accessible to all who follow Christ. Today if discouragement has got a grip, it’s time for a turn-around. Invite the Holy Spirit to bring joy, peace and hope into your heart and begin to rejoice again in God!
