I’m excited today because we have the opportunity to be together to worship and praise the one and only saviour: of course we’re talking about our Lord Jesus Christ! It’s interesting that some churches use the language of ‘attending’ worship; an expression I find curious because I have always seen worship as an act of engagement rather than something to be merely observed.
To worship and praise the God of creation is no frivolous thing. For those who are prepared to engage deeply, new depths of understanding of His ways and His character are revealed. Psalm 100 exhorts: ‘Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His.’ (Psalm 100:2,3)
Worship reveals more of the greatness of God to us and opens up a two-way road, where God reminds us significantly that we belong to Him. Surely that has to be one of the main reasons why worship should be an intimate engagement with our amazing God, rather than perceived as a casual act of attendance!
I conclude that today is a great day to worship. I hope you agree.
