No hidden catch

One of the central themes of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the free gift of eternal life. It is given at great cost: the sacrifice of the only son who laid down His life for the benefit of the whole world. Yet there is something in us that asks, ‘What’s the catch?’

The Bible talks a lot about grace (which is the undeserved favour of God) and states clearly that it is ‘by His grace that we have been saved through faith, and this faith was not from you, but it is a gift from God’ (Ephesians 2:8). What a great scripture to illustrate the generosity of God! We have the gift of salvation through the gift of Jesus Christ, given to us through a gift of grace and the given through the gift of faith! I can only conclude that God really does love to give gifts to His children. The only ‘catch’ is that God only gives good gifts; gifts that resonate with his character and heart; ones that help us to display His love to those we come into contact with.

Don’t fear God’s gifts or feel unworthy. When God gives, He guides and empowers, helping us to use them well for the benefit of His kingdom. He really doesn’t want you and me to miss out on any of the things He has in store for His children and there really is no hidden ‘catch’!
